Trent had just finished his first kitchen duty, helping to make breakfast for everyone and then washing all the pots and pans they used to cook in. He had just arrived at Horizon yesterday, and already he had chores that he had to do. Just great! It was so gross scrubbing pots and pans. He hoped that he arrived late enough that his groups’ kitchen duty would be over soon.
He slipped off his gloves and apron, so he was just in his medium wash jeans, dark blue long sleeved crew neck shirt, and black Converse shoes. He reached up, and ran his fingers through his hair, before grabbing his tray of food and walking into the dining room. Trent spotted an open table and made his way over to it. He set down his tray, pulled out the chair, and took a seat. He looked at his plate in disgust. It was full of bland scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon and a glass of orange juice. His mom would have made food that looked much better. He grabbed the pepper from the center of the table and sprinkled a generous amount on his eggs and hash browns. There, he thought, at least it would have some taste. Satisfied, he picked up his fork and began to eat.

*even when I'm walking on barb wire even when I sat myself on fire ! Why do I always feel invisible, invisible Karianne walked into the cafeteria by herself. She'd taken a bit longer than the other girls in her cabin to get dressed this morning. Her mind was wandering a bit. She couldn't be sure why she was so distracted lately. Luckily, the Pathwinders had the week off from chores, all except for whoever did the laundry for the week. She ran her fingers through her blonde hair and looked around. The Ridgerunners were on kitchens according to the schedule. She shrugged and grabbed a plate and tray along with everyone else and got in line. After getting her breakfast she stepped out of line and looked around the cafeteria.
She spotted the Pathwinders that she usually sat with. She wasn't really in the mood for big crowds today. She hoped that they would understand. She didn't want to upset anyone. Instead she looked for a nearly empty table, one where it didn't seem like a student was on shuns. She found one with a boy that she didn't recognize. She bit her bottom lip and walked over. "You don't mind do you? If you want to be alone I totally understand. I can find somewhere else to eat." * everyday I try to lock my past even though inside I'm such a mess ! , Why do I always feel invisible, invisible tagged , trent! outfit , outfit!words , . lyrics , invisible by skylar grey. status , finished. notes , well hello there.

Trent was just sitting there staring down at his tray and slowly chewing his food. He was enjoying some time to himself to think about things. Unlike most of the other students here, Trent did not mind being here. It gave him a place to sleep, go to school and get three meals a day. Sure, it was not home. But, Trent knew in his heart he would never have a real place to call home again. A home was with people who loved each other. Sure, Kelly and Ryan liked him, he thought anyway, but they did not love him like his mom had. That made it easy to settle for what he had here.
Trent looked up somewhat startled as he heard a girl speak. He hadn’t expected anyone to want to sit with him. He knew he wasn’t giving off the most friendly vibe. He looked the girl over and hid his shock. He didn’t usually hang out with people who dressed that preppy by choice. At his old private school, they’d had uniforms to wear but him and all his friends changed as soon as they could. But, he knew everyone here came from very different backgrounds, and he wanted to be accepting of others. He cleared his throat and said, “No, it’s fine. Whatever,” as he nodded to the chair next to him.

*even when I'm walking on barb wire even when I sat myself on fire ! Why do I always feel invisible, invisible Karianne was just about to walk off and find another table when the boy said that she could sit down if she wanted. She smiled and sat across from him. She reached for the salt in the middle of the table, but the sleeves of her cardigan rose up more than expected, exposing a fresh cutting scar. She quickly grabbed the salt and pulled her hand back, trying to hide it and hoping he hadn't noticed. She'd been doing so well lately, but she'd gotten overwhelmed yesterday after reading a letter from her sisters and mother and after lights out she'd picked up her hidden razor and well...you can figure out the rest. She hopped that she wouldn't have a random body check any time soon. They'd been getting farther apart thanks to her good behavior as of late, but she was sure she was probably over due for one.
She'd almost worn one of her worn-in sweatshirts and denim shorts today to hide the cut, but she thought maybe if she dressed happier today, she'd feel happier. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. It was too early to see which one it would be today. Wanting to take her mind of the cut, which had dried and and was probably scabbing over at the moment (or so she hoped) she cleared her throat a bit. "I haven't seen you around before. Did you just get to Horizon?" she asked, her southern drawl ever present. * everyday I try to lock my past even though inside I'm such a mess ! , Why do I always feel invisible, invisible tagged , trent! outfit , outfit!words , . lyrics , invisible by skylar grey. status , finished. notes , well hello there.

He offered her a small smile and then shoved a forkful of scrambled eggs into his mouth. He was about to look down, feeling awkward, when he saw her reach for the salt. He noticed a cut on her arm but did not say anything. He proceeded to look down and act as though he had not seen anything. Trent figured if she wanted to talk about it she would. Considering he didn’t even know her name yet, he figured that wasn’t likely.
He picked up a piece of bacon and took a bite, as he heard her speak. He chewed and swallowed, before taking a drink of juice to wash it down. “Umm… Yeah, I just got here yesterday,” he replied softly with his west coast accent. Did he stick out that noticeably as a new guy, he wondered. He hoped not, he really just wanted to blend in. He glanced up at her and asked, “How long have you been here for?”
