Afraid:

Jess has been afraid over many many things. She started to exhibit more fear since she has arrived at Horizon. She had also been afraid when her step father was sneaking into her bedroom at night, and having his way with her, even when he was punishing her, he would show her how to be a good girl, those were his words. So now she associates that word, with fear and being afraid.

Joy:

Jess used to smile a lot. She used to show emotions better then how she does now. For some odd reason Jess isn't smiling nearly as often as she used too. She is now crying, she is now hiding behind a wall that she puts up. She tries her best to show nothing. She doesn't laugh, she won't even smirk. Though she seems to be opening up more to Hunter.

Bottled up ANGER:

Jess has a lot of anger stored inside now. Most of it is directed towards her stepfather Walt, her mother and Shelby. She feels that they could have stopped something if her mother had spoken up. She is also Mad that her mother won't leave Walt, that she is still sticking to him, when all he did was hurt Shelby and her. She is angry and scared and worries that he will come and get her.

Birth:

The second kid to Magaret Merrick and Alan Merrick. She was the second and very last kid that the two of them were going to have. The reason, they were separating. Her parents constantly fought each other. Magaret always worked, she felt like she was swamped with trying to make ends meet, as well as put her husband through schooling, plus raising two daughters.

Her parents separated when Shelby and Jess were very young. Jess didn't really know what to do. She started blaming there separation there divorce on herself. Each time she blamed herself, she felt depressed. She honestly felt that as a baby her father didn't want her, that's why he didn't stick around. Her father did want her, just didn't want to be in the family. Jess didn't know that her father was sleeping around with other women. Jess was younger then five when that happened.

Childhood:

She needed something it was usually provided for her. She needed new dance shoes, her mother had it for her. She needed something for school, her mother got it. She didn't really have to ask questions how, her mother wouldn't steal. She did her best to get buy, even with two daughters. It was during her childhood that her mother had met Walt. Walt seemed like a nice guy, but in truth he wasn't. He was horrible, and mean and nasty.

Teens:

Jessica's older sister Shelby was taken away when she was younger, she had seen her sister running away, she seen her sister leave her over and over again, then finally she left to Horizon. Jessica didn't know what to do. It was when Shelby left that Jess was often called 'kitten' her father's favorite saying for his new little toy.

She didn't know that Shelby had undergone the same treatment, nor did she want to tell anyone about it. She had gone day in and day out, getting scared in bed, looking at the door, she had even started to wet the bed on an almost everyday occurring. Her mother didn't know what to do, but let it go as if her daughter was having wet dreams. She wasn't, she was scared that Walt was going to come into her room yet again.

It was towards the end of her sister's junior year, when walt broke his back. He was layed off his job, and held up in the house. Thankfully Walt couldnt' and wouldn't be able to hurt Jess anymore, but Jess felt broken. She felt betrayed. When Shelby returned, she acted like she didn't want to be around Jess. Shelby acted like everything was fine, when it wasn't.

It was around a week later, when everything went for the ground. Shelby had found out that Jess was now being abused. Jess had broken down and told Shelby, Shelby didn't know what to do, she had believed Walt's lies. So when Walt was being arrested, Jess was planning her escape.

She blamed her mother and shelby for everything now. She blamed them because they knew. They knew and they didn't do anything. They let Walt go in and out of the room time and time again, just for a few midnight jollies and did nothing about it.

Jess turned to the only thing she knew now, RUNNING. She ran towards anything but home. She was gone for over a week, as soon as Shelby had gone back to school, she had been gone that long. Her mother was worried for Jess now. She didn't show up for parents day, obviously to worried about Jess and about protecting her.

Jess showed up at Horizon, cold, wet, barely alive. She had almost did what Shelby had done. She had stolen food, or well what she could mostly eating out of dumpsters. It was on her way to Horizon, that she had gotten into a car, but the moment she saw a sign for Horizon, she jumped out. So now here she is at good old Horizon, already there for six weeks on a scholarship, and no one knows what else Jess is holding inside..
