*can't stay at home, can't stay at school. old folks say, ya poor little fool ! DOWN THE STREET I'M THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. I'M THE FOX YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR Shelby walked into the cafeteria and took a look around. The place had not changed. There were a few new faces, but other than that it was exactly the same as it had been on her first day here 10 months ago. She looked over at the table occupied by the Cliffhangers and rolled her eyes. She did not feel like sitting with her usual crowd today. She was in quite a mood as of late and no one was sure why. She knew of course, but she sure as hell wasn't going to try and make people understand what was wrong with her. The fact was, her mother had called earlier and they had gotten into it...majorly. There was a bit of yelling, screaming, and a bit of foul language to boot, mostly on Shelby's part. Her mother still couldn't see to rap her head around the fact that Shelby and her sister were practically damaged goods thanks to her husband, who she had yet to divorce. What the hell was her mother still doing married to the creep that had molested her daughters countless times? That's exactly what Shelby had asked her mother and when the woman could not provide an answer, the girl hung up on her because she knew that her mother had no real logical explanation.
So no, she didn't quite feel like sitting with the other Cliffhangers and having the badger and pry and try and figure out what was wrong with her. She grabbed a tray and skipped ahead in the line, ignoring a few of the suggestive stares she was getting from the guys. Yes, her midriff was exposed. Not much, but just enough that it still fell within the guidelines and rules of the Horizon dress code. She was wearing one of her favorite shirts. She was obsessed with any and everything 80s related and that included the movie Fame. She ran her fingers through her long wavy brown hair and tossed it to the side as the group behind the counter put the food on her plate. She was glad that the schedule had gotten switched around and the Cliffhangers were not on kitchens this week.
After her plate was filled with whatever crap the Ridgerunners had cooked up today, she looked around and found an empty table. Ignoring the looks she got from the other Cliffhangers, especially Scott, her boyfriend, she took a seat at the table. * hello daddy, hello mom, i'm your ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb ! , HELLO WORLD I'M YOUR WILD GIRL, I'M YOUR CH CH CH CH CH CHERRY BOMB tagged , daisy! outfit , outfit!words , . lyrics , cherry bomb by the runaways. status , finished. notes , well hello there.

`` You spent your whole life taking the best of me, Daisy sat at the end of the table with Ezra to her right and David to her left facing each other. The air around the table was surely awkward. Whenever one of the boys spoke, the other glared at him. Princess Juliette chimed in a few times, failing in her attempt to break the tension in the air. Daisy sat, eating the food on the plate in front of her slowly. Damn, boys made things more difficult. This was why she didn’t go for the whole boyfriend thing. They didn’t make her happy, nothing did and nothing will. Someone else’s spit in her mouth did not entice her one bit.
The girl looked straight ahead of her at Scott who had his eyes focused on the doorway. At this point, Daisy was blocking out the whole cafeteria’s bickering. The voices were tugging on nerves in her head, just asking for her to snap at them. Sometimes it was difficult for her to control herself, but that’s why she was brought to Horizon, right? To learn to control her anger. She was doing quite well, if her excuse for a dad was even remotely interested in her wellbeing. No calls. No letters. No contact. Just how she liked it. Zero communication.
Daisy watched as Scott’s eyes lit up. That only meant one thing. She turned around in her seat to see Shelby walk past the Cliffhanger’s table. The cards were being played in her favor, giving her an excuse to leave. Scott went to stand up, but Daisy cut him off, “She doesn’t want to see you you right now.” “How do you know that?” he snapped back. “The fact that she doesn’t want to sit here. And the look on her face should be enough of an answer for you,” Daisy replied in her usual emotionless voice as she stood up and began to walk over to the table where Shelby was sitting. “Must be a girl thing,” she heard Auggie say, followed by a giggling Juliette.
“Ah, men. And they say that we suck the life out of them,” Daisy said as she pulled out a chair and sat down across from her friend. She could definitely see that something was bothering her, but she wasn’t going to ask about it. If Shelby wanted to tell her, she will. If she doesn’t want to, that’s one less thing that she had to know about. Daisy wasn’t the pushy kind of girl. She didn’t want to know every little thing that was bothering you, however, if your problems are no cost to her, she’ll listen and offer a witty comment. Some of the girl’s comments and sayings seemed creepy, but if you thought about it a little more, dug a little deeper into her words, you’d see the truth in them. `tagged. shelby `words. enough? `music. here me now- hollywood undead `outfit. here`notes. *can't stay at home, can't stay at school. old folks say, ya poor little fool ! DOWN THE STREET I'M THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. I'M THE FOX YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR Shelby was perfectly fine picking at her food by herself at the table. She was fine with the thought of wallowing in her own thoughts for awhile. At least that was what she told herself. What else was she supposed to tell herself to keep her sane? That she needed someone? That she needed her mom to actually show that she loved and cared for her? Bullshit. She gave up on that notion a long time ago and she wasn't going to start believing it any time soon. What else was she supposed to say? That she actually needed someone to understand what she was going through? No matter how much "change" she went through at Horizon she still couldn't bring herself to say something like that.
However, in true Horizon fashion, she was not left to her own thoughts. She looked up and saw Daisy sitting across from her. She had to admit, out of all the Cliffhangers who could have sat down she was glad it was Daisy. Shelby gave a half-hearted laugh at what her friend said. She knew Daisy wouldn't push the issue about what was wrong with her. She'd give Shelby her space.
"Yeah well they love to blame us for their problems don't they." She looked over at the Cliffhanger table. Scott was practically sulking like a baby. She hated when he did that. He'd be in an extra pissy mood later and she would probably pay for ignoring him but it was just something she would have to deal with. "God, does he have to make that face?" she said looking away from Scott and down at her plate. She looked up at Daisy and raised an eyebrow. "Peter actually let you get away with that shirt?" * hello daddy, hello mom, i'm your ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb ! , HELLO WORLD I'M YOUR WILD GIRL, I'M YOUR CH CH CH CH CH CHERRY BOMB tagged , daisy! outfit , outfit!words , . lyrics , cherry bomb by the runaways. status , finished. notes , well hello there.

`` You spent your whole life taking the best of me, A smile tugged at the corners of Daisy’s mouth when her friend at least tried to laugh at her life sucking comment. That could be a good thing, but then again, Shelby was pro at hiding what she was really feeling. That always worried Daisy. She could read people’s emotions easily and the better she got to know someone, the easier it was to tell if something was wrong with them. The girl saw that there was something bothering her friend, but she avoided the subject.
“Everyone loves to blame the teenagers of the world for their problems. The guys at this age are just as messed up as we are,” Daisy spoke the truth. She followed Shelby’s gaze, turning around to see Scott and rolled her eyes. “He’s being a Drama Queen right now. I told him that you didn’t want to see him right now. Hope you don’t mind.” Whoa. That would suck if she read Shelby’s expression wrong. As much as Daisy didn’t like Scott, she didn’t want to cockblock the only guy that made her friend smile.
The girl chuckled, “Yeah, he did. Though he wasn’t too happy about it.” Daisy was quite proud of this accomplishment. It called for a little bragging. “I bargained for it, kind of. I told him that I was expressing my thoughts through my choice in clothing. He asked me why and I told him that if he let me wear the shirt, I would tell him,” she paused, “Of course this was in our usual style of confrontation, back to back, so I didn’t have to look at him.” A slight smirk curled on Daisy’s lips, which quickly faded.
She looked down at Shelby’s shirt, “And you get away with that? I still don’t understand what pineapples have to do with Fame…” her voice trailed off as she remembered her plans for later. “Hey, I’m going to stick a sharp object through my tongue later, you wanna watch and muffle my screaming?” the girl said, raising her eyebrows and smiling. She decided that thirteen piercings on her face wasn’t enough. The only feature on her face that she had yet to puncture was her tongue and she’d be doing that tonight, with or without the company of her friend.

*can't stay at home, can't stay at school. old folks say, ya poor little fool ! DOWN THE STREET I'M THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. I'M THE FOX YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR "Oh please, everyone in the world is just as fucked up as we are." That was truly how Shelby felt. Everyone had their problems. Even Sophie and Peter who seemed oh so together had their issues, she was sure of it. They may have gotten way passed their...detrimental problems, but there were still small issues. From what she had heard, Peter had even back slid into addiction not too long ago. But Peter knew that he had issues. That's what she liked about Peter. Most everyone else in the world tried to deny what was wrong with them and blame all their problems on people like Shelby. Deep down they know they were screwed up. Shelby knew it too.
Once again Shelby was amazed at how well Daisy seemed to pick up on her feelings. She was glad someone had told Scott not to come over. Of course the alternative was looking at him get even deeper into his pissy mood. No you're right. I can't sit over there and deal with him..or Princess...or any of them really. Not after dealing with that phone conversation with my mother." Even the thought of her mom at that moment disgusted her. "Hey, I'm within Horizon guidelines, at least by my standards. There's not too too much showing. You know me though, always pushing the limits. I'm sure pretty soon Sophie will get sick of it and tell me it's inappropriate." Shelby shrugged.
Shelby raised an eyebrow. "You're a sick puppy you know that. Where are you even going to get the needle to do that?" * hello daddy, hello mom, i'm your ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb ! , HELLO WORLD I'M YOUR WILD GIRL, I'M YOUR CH CH CH CH CH CHERRY BOMB tagged , daisy! outfit , outfit!words , . lyrics , cherry bomb by the runaways. status , finished. notes , well hello there.

`` You spent your whole life taking the best of me, Daisy nodded in agreement. Shelby was right, everyone is fucked up. “Some people just hide it better than others,” she added, speaking through clenched teeth. If there was anything that truly annoyed this girl, it was people that could walk around like there was nothing wrong. Everyone had problems and fears, some run from them and some face them. Daisy for one, was smart. She surrounded herself in her fear and obsessed over it. Yes, the dismal, goth girl was afraid of death and only one person really knew about it. No one else was going to find out.
The girl let out a relieved sigh. Thank God that she read that the right way. Daisy did not want to deal with relationship crap right now. Not this soon after her mother’s death and with the whole feud between David and Ezra. The girl listened as Shelby mentioned a phone call from her mother. “I guess you can count me lucky on that one. No more calls from my mother, not that she would have called anyway,” she spoke with a smug, sarcastic smile, hiding the pain. The pain wasn’t due to the death of her mother, it was more because she never felt that she had a mother to begin with. Before Daisy was seven years old everything was rainbows and smiles, but after she came home from school to see her mother licking the perfume up off the floor, things were never the same. The girl looked down at the surface of the table for a few moments, regaining her composure.
“Not to stick up for her or anything, but Sophie isn’t that bad. Her problems are just as bad as ours. Plus, she has to enforce the rules or Lover Boy won’t be too happy with her,” Daisy said with a smirk. “It’s a teenager’s job to push the limits,” she paused, a smile crawled across her face, “To walk within the lines would make life so boring.” Yep. She just quoted Avril Lavigne. It officially made her pathetic. The girl did have a thing for song lyrics and music though.
Daisy laughed, “What is with all of the dog jokes today? You’re the second person to compare me to a dog. Am I really that much of a bitch? I think that I’ve been genuinely civil to other people, except for Ezra.” That little comparison was really starting to irk the girl. Why a dog? She didn’t even like dogs all that much. “I didn’t say needle, did I?” Daisy asked. She could have swore that she said ‘sharp object’ because that’s what she intended on using. In fact, she already had her hands on a good enough tool, a nail. It was the most convenient and all she had to do was sterilize it over the fire in the lodge.

*can't stay at home, can't stay at school. old folks say, ya poor little fool ! DOWN THE STREET I'M THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. I'M THE FOX YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR Shelby knew how her Daisy felt about her mother. Really if you didn't have issues with your parents why were you really here? She supposed her relationship with her mother was just as screwed up as Daisy's had been. Where her own mother just chose to put her marriage and pig of a husband before her kids, Daisy's mom chose alcohol over her. Neither was better or worse than the other. Shelby remember Daisy's mother's funeral like they had just been yesterday. She was surprised that Daisy had asked her to go. The whole thing was extremely emotional and she knew no matter how much Daisy tried to act like she didn't care, she could tell she did.
"Yes well my mother has once again come up with an excuse for not divorce that ass Walt. I swear the woman is so desperate for affection she'd give Juliette a run for her money." She shook her head and took another bite of food. She shrugged at Daisy's comment about Sophie. "Oh I know she's okay as adults go. Better than what's out in the real world at least. She pushed the food away and folded her arms over her chest. Still trying to ignore the ever pouting Scott. "You're not a bitch. That's my job remember. You're....I don't know what you are but it's not that I can tell you for sure. At least not most days anyway." * hello daddy, hello mom, i'm your ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb ! , HELLO WORLD I'M YOUR WILD GIRL, I'M YOUR CH CH CH CH CH CHERRY BOMB tagged , daisy! outfit , outfit!words , . lyrics , cherry bomb by the runaways. status , finished. notes , well hello there.

`` You spent your whole life taking the best of me, “That’s horrible,” Daisy said, chuckling slightly at her comment about Juliette. That was true. Juliette did seem be the center of everything that happened with the Cliffhangers, along with Scott. Daisy wasn’t a huge fan of that boy. He was too impulsive and his impulses put other people at risk. Like that one time when everyone was doing their solo treks in the storm and he had to go scare off Shelby. That boy was lucky that he brought her back. Daisy would have lost her mind if her only friend didn’t come back.
“At least she doesn’t drink herself into oblivion on a daily basis. That’s all I could ask for.” Daisy hadn’t been in Shelby’s situation, so she couldn’t say she understood. All she could do was try to understand and lend her ears if anyone had to talk about something. Daisy did not spill secrets, never had and never will. She was a good listener and didn’t speak much unless she felt she needed to.
“Ah, your job. Well at least you’re good at it,” Daisy meant that as a compliment, “I just try to stay out of people’s way.” The girl hated being a bother. She was good at making herself seem invisible. Sixteen years of practice does that to a girl. “I can be a bitch, but it’s not as easy as you make it look.” A smile cracked on her lips as she adverted her eyes and looked down at the placemat. “And yeah, not many people can say what I am besides a freak.”
Daisy paused and sighed, “So, are you going to help me puncture my tongue? Or am I doing this myself?” Either way it was going to be done. She didn’t care much if anyone was there, but she knew that Shelby wouldn’t chicken out and wouldn’t be afraid to stuff something in her face to muffle the screaming. Juliette would probably squeal on her, Kat would probably stand there and tell her that it was a bad idea, but she couldn’t see Shelby caring much, which was exactly what Daisy needed.
