You may not listen to your parents, or your teachers, or law officials at home, but you will follow our rules. If you want us to help you, you have got to be able to help yourself first and work with us. All rules we find out you have broken will result in consequences. That's something you learn at Mt. Horizon: all of your actions have consequences. They will vary from anything such as shuns [which means you will not be allowed to speak or do anything with any of the other students for an allotted amount of time] to wood chopping, to solo or buddy treks [being dropped in the woods and having to find your own way back. please note that you will be shadowed by a counselor for safety] to extra chores to essays. The list goes on. In extreme cases, expulsion from the program will go into effect and you will be placed in the care of your parents or proper authorities.
Rules 1) No contraband of any kind. This includes, but is not limited to, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, nicotine products, weapons, etc. Given this rule, every student is subject to a search of their person and belongings to make sure they are not bringing in any contraband.
2)No sexual contact of any kind between students permitted.
3) No inappropriate touching (i.e. kissing, fondling, etc). This does not include hugging.
4)Romantic Relationships between students are not forbidden, however, they are somewhat frowned upon. Please you discretion and responsible choices. If a relationship is thought to be too serious or a danger to the parties involved, the parties will be separated and necessary measures will put into effect.
5) No romantic encounters or relationships between students and counselors.
6)The designated chores are expected to be completed by all students and counselors. Everyone is expected to help out. We are a community. Chores include kitchen duty, dishes, chopping wood, cleaning and inspecting equipment, etc. Cabins are also expected to be kept clean.
7)All students must attend classes, turn in work, and attend group.
8) All students must participate in Quests unless special circumstances apply. Students will be notified at least 2 days-1 week in advance. Quests are assigned by groups.
9) Outdoor activities or character building exercises must be completed unless special circumstances apply.
10) All students must complete solo treks before graduation. You will be notified at least 2 days- 1 week in advance before the date your solo trek is to be completed. These last 3 days.
11) Make-up and excessive jewelry will only be allowed on special occasions. Modesty is key. This goes for clothing as well.
12) Cell phones are prohibited.
13) Curfew is at 11:00 PM. This means all students are expected to be in their cabins, lights out, at this time. No wandering the grounds after hours.
14) Violence, towards others or towards yourselves, will neither be allowed, nor tolerated.
15) All new students will be assigned a buddy during their first few days at Horizon.
16) Junior and Senior students who have seniority and show good behavior, will be permitted off campus and into town. This could be for recreation, eating, or any jobs you acquire. A bus will drop you off and you are expected to be back on the bus at the allotted time. Students who abuse this privilege will have it taken away.
17) Students are considered new, or newbies, until they hit the 2 month mark.
